The Emblem of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Pipes and Drums Band portrays much about the band members and the community they represent:
'Eirannach Piob Mhor' is Irish Gaelic for 'Irish Great Pipes'.
The circular symbol represents the unending friendship and brotherhood of the AOH members.
The hands clasping the heart are representative of the Claddagh, a traditional Irish symbol. The hands in the design represent friendship, the heart, love, and the crown, loyalty.
The 13 stars represent the original 13 colonies. Rhode Island was the 13th colony to join the union, becoming a state in 1790.
The Anchor is a traditional symbol of a well-grounded hope. It was first adopted as a seal for Rhode Island in 1647, when the Providence Plantations were established.
The Celtic cross is an emblem of Christianity, embodying the Catholic beliefs of the AOH organization.
The triqueta is a Celtic Christian representation of the concept of "three in one" - the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Enclosed within the cross, it further symbolizes unity.
The Shamrock is the ubiquitous symbol of all things Irish. Although today it is usually regarded as a simple good luck charm, Catholic legend holds that St. Patrick used its three lobes as a device for teaching the Holy trinity. In Celtic folklore, the Shamrock is a charm against evil.
