This website supports and is devoted to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Dennis Collins Division 1, located in Newport, RI. We welcome all who are interested in Irish Catholic culture and heritage. We invite all Catholics of Irish birth or descent to seek membership to the finest Irish Catholic Organization in the World — we would ask that of you embrace our motto of: “Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity”.
This site provides a public section and a 'Members Only' section. We include links to other National and local Irish organizations in the Newport and Providence area. These organizations may not be directly affiliated with the Ancient Order of Hibernians but share many common interests. The listing of their websites and their events are provided as a courtesy to them and as a convenience to our visitors.
While practicing friendship, unity and Christian charity, we will work to strengthen and defend our Roman Catholic faith, our loyalty to our country, and our communities; and perpetuate the religion, history, culture and traditions of our Irish heritage.
Nominations for division officers have been released by the division's recording secretary. The list of nominees can be viewed on the members only ELECTIONS page.
PARTIAL HIBERNIAN HALL OPENING
Our hours of operations will be revised slightly with the weather changing and both Pro and College football seasons beginning. We will now be open Saturdays and Sundays 12 noon to 10 pm starting October 3rd. We will continue with the 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM operating time Monday - Thursday. All current social guidelines including face masks will remain in place when you visit the hall. Let's continue to respect each other and our community by following these rules.
We are currently in Phase III of the reopening process for bars and restaurants. If you plan to visit the hall I ask that you respect all social distancing guidelines (including masks) as you enjoy time with your brothers. We need to continue to respect each other and be responsible as an organization. As expected events are limited due to capacity and spacing restrictions.
The hall is open daily from 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm. There is pre-packaged food prepared by the Kitchen Companion available for eat in or take out. We will continue to communicate any adjustments as constraints are lifted.
You will receive notification via email and web postings as state restrictions are lifted. Please note that our actions reflect our interpretation of how these changes will allow us to progress. More information is available in our monthly newsletter
If you have any questions, please contact our president, Kevin Doyle.
POSTPONED: November 15th Veterans Brunch & Flag pole dedication. Message from the President Kevin Doyle; With all of the current health concerns, I have decided to postpone the AOH /LAOH Veteran's flagpole dedication and lunch which was scheduled for November 15th A lot of effort went into the preparation for this event and many will be disappointed. However, I feel that we need to consider the health and safety of all our members first. Special thanks John Lalli, Jim Fowler and Patrick McGrath for their work and look forward to the day when we can hold this event to honor our Veterans.
Our division board met last week and decided to cancel the November and December monthly meetings. We are not comfortable with bringing a large group together at this point due to the ongoing health concerns and restrictions. A few of the committees have been meeting on a monthly basis in small groups and have been reporting back to the board. With the cancellation of the next two monthly meetings we have prepared a plan for nominations and election for the 2021 division board positions. For more information about elections and future plans please read this month's News Letter.
